In het onderzoeksprogramma Nederland Schrijven buigt NL-Lab zich over de vraag hoe Nederlandse identiteit is en wordt vormgegeven in onderzoek en rapporten van wetenschappelijke instituten en adviescolleges. Ik benader dit vraagstuk vanuit mijn expertise over collectioneren in het algemeen en het Meertens Instituut in het bijzonder.

Krakende vloeren, rinkelende kopjes en trillende telefoons. Eigenlijk willen de onderzoekers van het Meertens Instituut de huisgeluiden niet in de opnames horen. De focus ligt immers op dialecten, liedjes of volksverhalen. Maar voor Elise ’t Hart, afgestudeerd aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht en oprichter van het Instituut voor Huisgeluid, zijn deze geluiden juist interessant .

Suddenly you find yourself sitting at a kitchen table in the 1970s, being witness to a casual conversation between old friends, where a good story is told or a local song is sung, while the clock ticks and coffee is poured. The only thing missing is the smell of tobacco smoke. Welcome to the audio collection of the Meertens Instituut.
